After our ocean passage from Astoria and our previous home on the Columbia River, our first port of call was Port Townsend. We stopped and stayed for two nights at Point Hudson Marina in Port Townsend and thoroughly enjoyed our time there.

We arrived at 8pm on a Monday evening. We had failed to secure a slip assignment prior to arriving so we came into the marina and had to choose an open slip. We knew from our cruiser’s guidebook that the slips nearest the entrance were the guest slips, so we took one of them for the night, prepared and willing to potentially need to move the boat to a new slip the next day after talking to the marina office.

Thankfully, we found an after-hours registration box and dropped our first night’s fee in the box so that it would be waiting for the office staff when they arrived the next morning. This did smooth things over for us a bit when we went in to check in the next morning.

They were very friendly though and, despite having had planned that slip for another boat that evening, they reassigned that boat to another spot and let us stay in the original slip for the remainder of our time there (just one more night).

The marina did have very nice restrooms (key-code entrance) with coin-operated showers and laundry facilities (which we did not use or even check out- sorry!).

Nearby Attractions

Okay, obviously Port Townsend is a MAJOR West Coast boating city and I don’t think I need to go into details on just how amazing this town is for anything boating related (especially wooden boats and classic boats). We’ve yet to get to attend the town’s famous Wooden Boat Festival each fall but might hit it up this September.  Whether we do or not, we will definitely be back to Port Townsend to spend some time in this town. And, honestly, one of the things we’re looking forward to the most is getting back to the Point Hudson Cafe.

Point Hudson Cafe - Best Food Ever

This little cafe, Point Hudson Cafe, directly adjacent to the Point Hudson Marina has some of the best foods we’ve ever eaten! We were there for less than 48 hours and ate at the cafe three times! Also, Doc’s Marina Grill just next door had fabulous dinner and we wouldn’t hesitate to return there for another meal.

We left on Wednesday at noon, headed for Seattle’s Elliot Bay Marina. Our schedules dictated that we move on so that we could get the kids back from my parents and get settled into life here in the Puget Sound. But, again, we will definitely be back to Port Townsend and would love to spend another night at Point Hudson Marina so that we could just walk up the dock ramp and into the cafe for a certainly-delicious meal!

Thanks for reading! Let me know if this blog post helps ya. I’d love to hear from somebody that tries out one of these nice marina restaurant establishments through my recommendations and how they stacked up in your opinion!
