I like to write up these “Cruiser’s Reviews” when we visit fun and interesting places. I hope they help other people find great places to visit by boat. In addition, these review posts help me remember our adventures! 😂 Enjoy this Cruiser’s Review for the Port of Newport Marina in Newport Oregon and find all my other reviews HERE.

Port of Newport Marina in Newport Oregon - cruiser's review for sailing down the US West Coast

Finding a Suitable Marina in Newport Oregon

We left the Pacific Northwest to head down the US west coast in August 2021. Afterward, our first stop after leaving the Strait of Juan de Fuca was Newport Oregon.

We stayed at the Port of Newport Marina and RV Park just inside the bridge in Newport Oregon. The port operates a commercial basin and a recreational basin, which is where we stayed. I’ve also seen it called the South Beach Marina.

The Newport Marina opens to the Yaquina River in the NW corner. Directly as you come into the marina, the northern-most dock is the fuel dock (red arrow). The pumpout station is located on the end of the fuel dock (green arrow). Subsequently, the finger dock directly south of the fuel dock is the marina’s main guest dock (yellow arrow). This is where we stayed for 9 days while waiting for a weather window to get further south.

Our boat, Mosaic, tied to the guest dock at the Port of Newport Marina with other temporary dock guests. Most of the sailboats were headed south toward Mexico like us.

Amenities and Services at the Port of Newport Marina

The marina offers everything you would expect from a well-established boating destination. There are laundry facilities on-site and plenty of showers for marina and RV park guests. These services are coin-operated and the marina office will happily sell you quarters.

There is no convenient grocery store for provisioning nearby, but we ordered groceries delivered straight to the dock from Fred Meyer through Instacart. There is also a bus that picks up at the marina office. By using the bus system, you can get around town fairly well. And the marina office was even offering free bus tickets when we were there.

Yaquina Bay Bar Information

I found great information on many bar crossings in Oregon. Here is the Coast Guard PDF that I found for the Yaquina Bay Bar. I hope you find it as beneficial as we did!
