V-Cove in the Sea of Cortez, East of Loreto
In June, we wrapped up a week in Puerto Escondido fixing various systems on the boat. We headed out of there to try to catch up with the fleet of kid boats just up the way. Sailing from Puerto Escondido for several hours, we reached V-Cove on the north side of Isla Carmen to the east of Loreto. Pulling into the anchorage, we spotted 3 other kid boats: the friends we had been trying to catch up to!
We joined SV Nike, SV Captain Musick, and SV Foreigner. And, soon after we arrived, SV Meraki also joined the crowd. This would become our core group of friends as we moved up the inside of Baja.
I think we’d had the anchor down for about 20 minutes when the call came in on the VHF asking if the kids could play. Brenden zoomed off to collect kids for a play day.
Our family spent the better part of a week soaking up the good life in V-Cove. It was so much fun, I mostly forgot to even take photos…
We spent the days exploring, swimming, playing at the beach, and the evenings chatting aboard one boat or another, deepening friendships and talking the highs and lows of cruising. It was SO refreshing and was just what we needed.
So, after five days or so enjoying paradise, we all made plans for our next steps. A couple of the boats were planning to make their next jump north, one or two headed over to anchor near Loreto for a night or two to do some provisioning before heading further north, and we opted to jump over to Isla Coronado for a couple nights. We didn’t want to miss that stop before heading north ourselves. I’ll pick up there, next time…
