After our amazing week in V-Cove with friends, we headed to nearby Isla Coronados for a couple of nights before we planned to head further up into the Sea.
We were here without any close buddy boats because our closest cruising friends had already been here while we were still stuck doing boat repairs in Puerto Escondido.
This Island boasts a high percentage of the Loreto area tourist activities because it is a short panga ride from the Baja town of Loreto. Lots of people visit Loreto as tourists and buy a panga ride out to the island for a day of fun on the glorious beaches. There’s a volcano here and one common cruiser activity is to hike to the top.
When we were here, we knew that we’d only be here for two nights. Since we arrived in the mid- to late-afternoon on the first day, we knew that, if we wanted to do the hike, it would need to be on the second day since that was out only full day in this spot.

So, on our second day here, we got up before sunrise and took our dinghy in to the beach. It was such a different place without the hoards of tourist crowds as were there until sunset the night before.
We didn’t all have actual shoes anymore by this point, so we didn’t make it to the top of the mountain. When we stopped, the trail had turned into quite a rocky, scraggly scree pile and it wasn’t really safe to continue in flip flops.
The hike was super fun. That afternoon, we took the dinghy over to the other smaller beach area at the far SW tip of the island.
The following morning, we left fairly early to head north toward San Juanico. Here, we planned to meet back up with our friends aboard Captain Musick, and many others, and continue north into the Sea of Cortez.
