Just a few days after launching Mosaic back into the water, we’d traveled from Puerto Penasco to Refugio and then immediately to the Village at Bahia de Los Angeles. Our Starlink wasn’t working due to a glitch in their system when they sent the unit to us, so we didn’t have reliable internet and had only stopped at BLA to check weather and notify family and friends of our comm issues at the restaurant in BLA.
There was a gale incoming, so we picked up our anchor that Tuesday morning and went to anchor in the nearby hurricane hole known as Puerto Don Juan.
We fished from the boat in the anchorage and were very happy to catch a Green Barred Snapper on Tuesday afternoon. Brenden made delicious fish tacos.
We remained completely alone in the anchorage until Wednesday afternoon. At that point, one other sailboat joined us in the anchorage. They were super friendly and kayaked over to Mosaic to meet us before they went to shore to go for a hike. We did the same and hiked across the land to where we could see the next anchorage over. It was a really neat hike and nice to get off the boat for a bit.
Rick and Mary on Que Sera, the other boat, had a (functional) Starlink. They were kind enough to allow us to check weather. We decided to jump on a nice weather window to leave Don Juan on Thursday for an overnight passage down south to Santa Rosalia.
