Grand Canyon National Park
On the second day of our quick Arizona sightseeing trip, from and back to Phoenix, we went and visited the Grand Canyon and several ancient pueblo sites, including Wupatki.
Unfortunately, when we arrived early at the Grand Canyon, not only was it right at freezing temperature, which in itself wouldn’t have been too bad, but the wind was blowing hard and the wind chill factor was intense.
Wupatki National Monument
After driving the south rim of the Grand Canyon, we had to head back south toward Phoenix. Along the way, we stopped at several ancient pueblo sites in the Wupatki National Monument.
These ruins were almost all totally original! And hundreds of years old! They were SO COOL. This (above) was the first site that we came upon after the Grand Canyon and on the way to Wupatki. There were very very few people around and we loved having the place to ourselves. But if we’d know what was just down the road, we wouldn’t have lingered here quite so long. Because Wupatki itself was REALLY amazing.
We ran out of time as we had to get back to Phoenix to our pet sit. With animals waiting for us, we couldn’t opt to just stay longer. We will definitely be back!
